My mother used to sing this to us too:

Past 8 o'clock and it's bedtime for dolly,
Past 8 o'clock and it's bedtime for me.
Dolly must sleep on her nice little pillow,
Dolly and I are quite sure to agree.

( refrain)
Good night Mama, good night Papa,
Good night to all the rest,
Good night Mama, good night Papa,
For I love dolly best.

Ma turn the lights out for I am so sleepy,
Papa good night, love and give me a kiss,
Dolly good night I will see you tomorrow,
Dolly and I are quite sure to agree.
( refrain)

My mother used to sing the same song about the doll named Topsy.
She was from England. She and my Dad married in London in the church where her father was the Vicar. My grand mother came to live with us in Oklahoma and sang to us the song plus several others they she knew.

So happy to find this thread!
I sing this song to my kids, my mum sang it to me and goes right back to my grandfathers grandfather! Which my dad tells me would date back to around 1780!

The lyrics as we know them are:

I had a black dolly named topsy
Who didn't like sleeping alone
For topsys afraid of black bogeys
Though I'm perfectly sure there are none
But topsy is only a dolly
And she doesn't know better you see
So I pop her right under my pillow
Cos I know she likes sleeping with me
And when the sun shines in the morning
I sing til I think she's awake
And I take her right into the garden
And I give her a wash in the lake
But topsy is blacker than ever
Though as shiny as shiny can be
Though I wash her and wash her and wash her
I can't make her white like me
